ICS whats the hold up for Samsung Galaxy Nexus ?

May 1st, 2012

So you’ve recently purchased a brand new kickass Samsung Galaxy Nexus the king of all Android handsets and your feeling like your on top of the world, plain sailing on the web  data ocean. But wait there a dot on the horizon, what this you ask unhappy at having your dream interrupt. Well if you have recently purchased your device for Verizon and are still waiting to upgrade to ICS Android 4.0 you might be waiting a while longer as according to the rumor mill it’s not Android that rea delaying the release, no, it’s the carrier although Verizon was not mention directly the inference is there.

So what possible reason could there be for delaying the much-needed Android  release, why ? well one reason and its purely speculation is to drum up more business create desperation and try to sell more devices, which is a risky strategy as consumers can decide to change to another device if the delay becomes more intolerable and the excuses weaker. If people are willing to splurge and shell out hard-earned cash with the reasonable expectation that updates are put of the package so any delay could have serious ramifications for the manufacturer and carrier.

Out with the old in with the new

April 23rd, 2012

Looks like Verizon has deemed that it ahs been  decided that in preparation for the release of the new golden boy phone th e Incredible 4, the Incredible 2 has had its chips and is not for sale anymore on the Verizon website. With only three more days until the release of HTC Incredible 4 Verizon are preparing big time and hope to hit the ground running. Of course many of us are eager to await the arrival of any new 4G phone especially on from Verizon as its going to be hooked up to the heavily invested LTE Network.

unfortunately with all the hype that’s being generated I hope its going to be worth the wait. HTC have released some specs about what to expect with the upcoming release of the Incredible 4. So what does the phone have ? Well expect a dual core 1.2 Ghz processor with 1Gb of ram for starters a nd a 960×540 qHD screen so it’s not going to be a slouch by any means.

Stolen cell phone database long time coming but still a good idea

April 10th, 2012

News out that the top four carriers, Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and T-mobile have agreed with the US government to create a database for all stolen cell phones on their respective networks. About time they have along enough to think about it only two of the top four do this. The database that will be run and maintained by the above fore mentioned will not only record and track each cell phone but will block it to stop it being able to place calls or used for data usage.

That being said I think a lot of the onus should also be on the manufactures it’s all to easy to hack smartphone technology. There is such a lucrative market now and how easy it is to sell a phone online and try to figure out if tis stolen or not. Wipe a phone and where’s the owner information. Sure you can protect it with a pin or make a note of the SKU or serial number but how many people would do that. Like I said so many easy ways to pick up and Galaxy or HTC for cheap if you know where to look and for years the cell phone companies did nothing, now hopefully that will change and maybe more countries will follow suit.

Battle of the Sim cards Verizon in the mix

March 27th, 2012

This might not seem newsworthy but there has been a bit of a battle between the top phone manufactures what’s it to do with, yep small sim cards or trying to standardise them oh yeah its now been renamed as nano sim by Nokia choice. Now there’s been a lot of speculation as to what Apple are trying to push there spec for nan sim card and recent comment have suggested that it could be specific to the only apple devices and everybody else would have to follow suit. The four big carriers are keeping a close eye on this Verizon Sprint amongst them Now if your like me and have no idea what I’m talking about, let me explain every new smart phone needs a sim card, now newer phone and advancement in tech means that phone need more space so the card has to be reduced in size.

Ok you say what’s the problem well its to do with the one company trying to set the standard and capitalise on it that’s what the like of Apple and Nokia are fighting over. Now most sim cards can be cut don to a smaller micro size and still work and these smaller cards can still be used in other phone using an adaptor. Now with the advent of 4G and more powerful devices the fear is that changin this sim card design will give some manufacturers an edge. It now turns out that Apple is proposing a cut down version of the Micro Sim with according to reports will have the same connections as previous incarnations where Nokia are settling for a micro sim format.

Ipad3 and the battle of Verizon and AT&T who will win

March 9th, 2012

Ok so this isn’t exactly techie news but its an interesting piece that’s been doing the circuit in the last few hours about the difference between the two biggest carriers Verizon and AT&T and how the new release of the Ipad 3 (angels and trumpets in unison) might be better for one than the other. Well the truth of is that Verizon does have the advantage even before the abacus start rattling its obvious that Verizon coverage on 4G is much larger than At&T.

Another factor is that the Apple device has in its architecture is the mobile hotspot which can turn the Ipad3 into a wifi zone, this is not possible on the AT&T network but is on Verizon. Recent survey also has suggested that with the release of the new Ipad3, traditionally the older generation Ipad users tend to use their devices in free wifi zones to avoid the cost of large data charges but now with the advent of Ipad3 and the availability of 4G this could change and give Verizon a boost in revenue if the availability and 4G live up to the hype.

Was the SimCard my iPhone problem?

March 5th, 2012

I had a problem the since I got my new iphone 4s a few months ago. When I was at home I could surf the internet fine using it, while I was on wifi. But as soon as I would go out and about I would get disappointing results using 3G. The problem was that I would sometimes be able to using the 3G but most of the time (maybe 80%) I wouldn’t. This was despite seeing 5 bars on the carrier signal indicator and the 3G symbol beside it.

iphone-4s-sim-unlock[1]I tried a lot of things, like updating the phone’s firmware using iTunes. I also tried switching 3g on and off numerous times (also tried switching airplane mode on and off too), but it had no effect. The store where I got it tried a few things too, like swapping out the old simcard for a new one. The old sim card was ‘cut’ from a larger sim, so that could have been a problem. But still nothing worked, and they told me to get in touch with apple and arrange them to pick up the phone and get it fixed (as it was still under warranty).

So I went home and logged on to apple’s site, to see what I had to do to arrange the warranty fix. But when before you get that far it talks you through several ‘fixes’ that can be done by the user. Most I had done already, but then I got to ‘reset network settings’. This will delete all the network settings, including carrier info and any wifi networks and passwords you may have previously stored. So I gave it a go, and it worked. This option can be access by going to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. A word of caution, you will loose wifi passwords, so make sure you find out what they are first. Also make sure you don’t reset anything other than network settings.

If this hadn’t worked the next step would have been doing a full phone reset, which would have meant a full backup, followed by loosing all my contacts, music, apps, everything. And beyond that It would have been sent back to apple for them to fix it. But I’m happy, 3G now works and I’m gonna try it more locations just to make sure.

Verizon release 2011 Investigative Response Caseload Review

March 1st, 2012

So you thought you where safe from cyber crime well guess again, Verizon have just brought out a new report (which you can actually download and read) its called the Verizon 2011 Investigative Response Caseload Review. To summarize the report and highlight the most important and separate the wheat from the chaff the main points of the report are as follows. What I consider the most worrying discovery in the report is that the actual reporting of cyber intruding or hacking is very lax some companies have not been very forthcoming when actually reporting data breach’s and this has been highlighted in the report.

databreach

It is understandable to a certain degree if costumers or consumers do not have faith in the affected company business could suffer drastically but its still pretty bad. Another surprising issue is that the report state that over ninety percent of attacks are external and not internal ones, as what you would think that disgruntle employees or ex employees hacking. To unlock or not unlock your Iphone n

February 27th, 2012

Find it quite incredible that people are still having issues with the whole unlock iphone affair, as reported on several other blogs there is now a hardware hack that is so easy to use its ridiculous I’m not going to post it here but it can be easily found. If your not willing to fork out some green backs for the hardware hack there are a few things you might need to consider. Firstly you can ignore all the main carriers such as Verizon and AT&T amongst others and buy it totally unlocked from Apple itself ! Yes that’s right unlocked from Apple.

lockphone

Ok the price might be high in the short term but consider that you wont be locked into a two year contract its an attractive proposition. Now Sprint will supposedly unlock your phone if you been good and eaten your vegetables for over eighty days. Verizon offer something similar but according to people who have tried its messy. So in the end is it really worth it. Well if you happened to be travelling yes it is absolutely and it can save you a bundle but beware there are hidden dangers the main carriers are catching on.

New hardware app allows AT&T Iphone to be unlock without jailbreak

February 21st, 2012

There is now an app that claims to be able to unlock sims for the Iphone 4s on the AT&T network, now this seems to good to be true but apparently this legit there really is an app that con do this ! Seemingly some major was been done to have developed a hardware tool for doing the dirty deed. Its called GPP. Now according to sources its so good that it can work without the Iphone being jailbreaked.

Now there is a video showing this actually working and its pretty legit from what I can make out. To use this hardware tools all you have to do according to the video and the makers is to place this there sim (yes its an actual sim) with your original sim together in your phone and bingo your phone is now unlock and able to use any sim you want which can be very handy. Now this is only works for the Iphone 4s on AT&T it will not work on sprint or verizon sim card.

Updates for Motorola Verizon for Razr and XYBoard

February 14th, 2012

Ok here’s some good news for Motorola users on the Verizon network, but there’s a bit of a catch its only five devices. But never mind its a start so what’s in the update well most is the usual bug fix and slight improvement in the hardware to do with the battery life. As we know by now most 4G LTE can be a real drain on the power and this has been a cause of much discussion as to whether its been good idea to bring out the uber network protocol if the device cant handle it, hopefully that will change with these updates.

xyboard

So enough waffle what are the devices well there’s five altogether two tablets and three Motorola android the Razr and its bigger brother the Maxx and the Bionic the tablets are the XYBoard both the eight point two and the ten point one. According to reports the updates for the tablets should enable roaming globally, this might include two updates the second will allow the sim card to be updated. Please check back on VerizonSimCard for more news.
